CIVILIZATION VI APRIL UPDATE PATCH SUMMARY

The Civilization VI A New Frontier expansion pass brought an entirely new slew of content for the game. While most of the bigger content updates came in the form of paid DLC, each one still arrived with a free update to be enjoyed by everyone. The final free update comes this April. And the Civilization VI April Update is huge. We made this patch summary to help you get your head around the most important changes.
NEW UNITS AND MAPS
Three new units arrive in Civilization VI. The Trebuchet upgrades from the Catapult, then into Bombard. It cannot move and attack on the same turn unless they’ve earned the Expert Crew Promotion. Khmer’s Domrey now replaces this unit.
Man-At-Arms upgrades from the Swordsman, upgrading into Musketman afterward. The Norwegian Berserker, Japanese Samurai, and Georgian Khevsur will now be a replacement for this unit.
Finally, the Line Infantry upgrades from the Musketman, then into Infantry. The French Garde Imperiale and English Redcoat now replace this unit.
Two new maps arrive in Civilization VI, both having a True Start Location version. The Mediterranean Large Map depicts the greater Mediterranean region with resources, terrain, and features reflecting true historic locations. Earth Huge Map, meanwhile, features a larger-sized Earth with resources, terrain, and features reflecting true historic locations.
BALANCE CHANGES TO CIVILIZATION VI
Various civilizations, mostly vanilla, received buffs to make them more competitive against the newer civilizations. Unit balance was updated, especially for the unit trees. Melee and siege units have the most significant changes to accommodate the three new units arriving in the April Update. Feudalism now unlocks Samurai, instead of Military Tactics. Malon Raider now upgrades to Cavalry, instead of Helicopter. Rough Raider now replaces Cuirassier, upgrading to Tank instead of Modern Armor, and now needs Ballistics instead of Rifling. Winged Hussar also now replaces Cuirassier, unlocked with Mercantilism instead of Mercenaries. Varu upgrades to Cuirassier now instead of Tank. Saka Horse Archer now upgrades to Crossbowmen instead of Field Cannon. U-Boats no longer need Oil.
UI CHANGES, BUG FIXES, AND CHANGES FOR CIVILIZATION VI: A NEW FRONTIER
Many balance changes appear to fix existing issues in A New Frontier content. Meanwhile a lot of bugs squashed themselves in the new April Update. Various UI changes also arrive to make life better, and the AI studied up and are now smarter, especially in terms of naval decisions.
