CDPR promises to make Cyberpunk 2077 ‘live up to’ its promise

CD Projekt Red isn’t ready to move on from Cyberpunk 2077 just yet. The game studio doesn’t want the game to get lost to obscurity. Its devs believe that they can still turn the game into ‘something to be proud of.’

CDPR had its Q1 2021 CD Projekt Group quarterly earnings report, which was live streamed. On it, the company revealed its financial performance (because that’s how earnings report work). Apparently, CD Projekt Red didn’t do well during Q1 2021. While the company performed well financially late last year in spite of Cyberpunk 2077‘s critical failure, we’ve anticipated exactly how it’ll turn around by this time. CDPR’s good financial performance over the years was maintained post-launch thanks to sustained purchases over time. However, with how infamous Cyberpunk 2077 has become, we doubt a lot of people got the game earlier this year.
While we imagine a lot of other devs would have ditched their failed projects immediately, CDPR seems to be taking the nobler route. According to CD Projekt president and joint CEO Adam Kiciński, they still want to work on the game. “We intend to live up to what we promised our gamers in January,” says Kiciński. “While we already see major improvements, a large part of the team continues to work on making sure that Cyberpunk provides even better entertainment to gamers.”
In a way, it’s a chance for them to make it up to their fans. But also, it seems like the CD Projekt development team really wants to fulfill their vision for Cyberpunk 2077. The game itself has a lot of potential and promise, only boggled down by bugs and lack of content. However, it might take some time until that happens, as CDPR revealed that they plan to work on the game in parallel to their new projects.
