Draymond Green takes credit for Devin Booker beating LeBron James, Lakers

Love him or hate him, Draymond Green is definitely an entertaining figure. The Golden State Warriors star has been in his fair share of drama, often because of his willingness to speak his mind at all times.

This has come back to haunt the Warriors veteran in a big way, as Devin Booker led the Phoenix Suns to a shocking upset victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. The fact that it broke LeBron James’ perfect 14-0 record in the first-round has been repeated endlessly ever since.
Draymond Green infamously claimed that Booker needed to get out of Phoenix during their epic 8-0 run in last year’s NBA playoff bubble. That take aged horribly bad given the events of the past week.
Here’s what the Warriors star said on Booker in August of 2020, via ESPN:
Green praised Booker and the Suns for their undefeated start in the NBA bubble at the Walt Disney World Resort, “but get my man out of Phoenix.”
“It’s not good for him. It’s not good for his career,” the Warriors forward said. “… They gotta get Book out of Phoenix. I need my man to go somewhere where he can play great basketball all the time and win, because he’s that type of player.”
The Warriors star was eventually fined $50,000 for those comments, which were considered to be tampering as he spoke as a TNT analyst at the time. But Suns fans aren’t letting him off the hook just yet. They’ve bombarded Green with direct messages and tweets reminding him of his now-humorous take. But Draymond tried to spin it around entirely, taking credit for the Suns’ successes as his words supposedly served as motivation to build around Booker. He even demanded them to pay back the 50k he had to cough up.. but for charity of course.

Shoutout to all the Suns fans sending me what I said about Book. ??? y’all ungrateful asses should be THANKING me. That day, they finally decided to get him some HELP. Love to see it!! I’m gonna start a Gofund me so y’all can show gratitude and pay my 50k back! ☺️??

Then I’m going to donate it to charity ???

The Warriors star is probably playing this tongue-in-cheek. But knowing Draymond Green, you can’t help but think there’s some part of him that believes it to be true.
