The EU is set to reopen travel from non-member states, if the passengers are vaccinated (Picture: Getty Images)The European Union is set to reopen travel from non-member states, so long as passengers have had both doses of a Covid vaccine.
\nEU ambassadors agreed today to update their approach to travel from outside the bloc, and recommended members states begin easing their border restrictions. Holidaymakers who are fully vaccinated will now be allowed to visit European destinations.
\nHowever, individual member states will have the final say in whether they accept proof of vaccination, meaning there could be different documents needed for different nations.
\nThe bloc will then further decided on list of \u2018safe\u2019 countries, based on their \u2018epidemiological situation\u2019, from where travellers will be permitted to enter the EU even without their Covid jab.<\/p>\n

The list is expected to be revealed on Friday. There are currently only eight countries on the list, including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Israel.
\nBritish holidaymakers are currently prohibited from visiting most of the EU under the Government\u2019s traffic light system in the UK, with Portugal and Gibraltar among the few destinations to make the green list. <\/p>\n

Greece and Spain currently remain on the UK\u2019s amber list (Picture: Rex)Countries such as Greece and Spain have already declared they will welcome back UK tourists, despite being on the UK amber list. Earlier today Boris Johnson said amber countries are \u2018not somewhere [Brits] should be going on holiday\u2019.
\nHe said: \u2018I think it\u2019s very important for people to grasp what an amber list country is: it is not somewhere where you should be going on holiday, let me be very clear about that.
\n\u2018If people do go to an amber list country, they absolutely have to for some pressing family or urgent business reason, then please bear in mind that you will have to self-isolate, you\u2019ll have to take tests and do your passenger locator form and all the rest of it.\u2019
\nIt was also confirmed today that a new \u2019emergency brake mechanism\u2019 would begin in the EU to limit the risk of another wave of infections sweeping across the bloc.
\nIt will allow member states to temporarily ban non-EU travellers from countries where the Covid situation has significantly worsened.
