We’ve been celebrating fathers for centuries, and an annual day set aside for the celebration of fatherhood in Catholic Europe can be traced back as far as 1508.
Although, it is possible that a day honouring fatherhood specifically could have started even earlier than that.
Father’s Day 2021 is now fast-approaching, but what date does it fall on this year?

When is Father’s Day 2021?
Father’s Day takes place on the third Sunday in June every year – in 2021, it falls on Sunday, June 20.

This year, Father’s Day is one day before the UK is supposed to hit its final date in the government’s roadmap for easing lockdown and lifting restrictions.
However, doubt has been cast on whether the easing of restrictions on June 21 will take place, with growing concerns over the surge in cases of the Indian Covid-19 variant.
What will the Covid-19 rules be on Father’s Day 2021?
As things stand, people in the UK should still be able to see and celebrate with their father figures on this date.
Household mixing and overnight stays have been allowed in England since May 17 – we can dine inside restaurants now, too.

In England, people are also now allowed to hug using their ‘personal judgement’ to determine what’s safe.
In Scotland, you can also meet up indoors and give hugs – unless you’re in Glasgow, where there are strict restrictions due to rising Indian variant cases.
In Wales, two households are allowed to meet indoors, form ‘extended households’ and hug. And in Northern Ireland, six people from two households can enjoy an overnight stay at someone’s house.

When is Father’s Day 2022?
Next year, Father’s Day takes place on Sunday, June 19 2022.
The day is always observed on the third Sunday in June.
