The portal for online booking is now open to those aged 21 or over (Picture: PA)All over-21s in England are now eligible to book their Covid jab as the rollout opens up to nearly one million more young people.
Around 972,000 people aged 21 and 22 will receive text messages inviting them to book their vaccine today.
The portal for online booking is now open to those aged 21 or over or who turn 21 before July 1 2021.
Those eligible must book their first and second jabs at the same time, with the second dose to be administered between eight and 12 weeks after the first.
It comes a day after people aged 23 and 24 were invited to book their jabs as the rollout speeds up.
NHS chief Sir Simon Stephens said yesterday that all over-18s in England should be able to book their coronavirus vaccination appointments by the end of this week.
More than 30 million people in the UK are now fully vaccinated against coronavirus after receiving both doses.
Just under 80% of people in the UK have had their first jab.
Dr Emily Lawson, who is leading the NHS coronavirus vaccine rollout, said we are on the ‘home stretch’ of giving out first doses.
She described getting the jab as ‘the most important step you can take to protect yourself, your friends and family’ and said it was ‘really important everybody in the latest eligible groups books themselves in to get their jab and plays their part in this huge national effort’.
