As the NFL Draft season is underway, the Los Angeles Chargers look to use their nine draft picks to their advantage by securing phenomenal top-tier talent. One of the players who the Chargers are looking to keep an eye on is offensive tackle Penei Sewell from Oregon. According to quarterback Justin Herbert, reuniting with his former teammate would be the perfect move to make.

According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports, Herbert has not been shy of expressing his request to draft Sewell. The two played at Oregon together for two seasons before Herbert declared for the NFL Draft. The Chargers have been in need of an offensive tackle following last season’s 7-9 record. As Sewell is one of the best tackles in this year’s draft, Herbert vouching for Sewell is kind of a no-brainer.
Sewell opted out of his junior campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In his two seasons on the field for the Ducks, Sewell earned First-Team All-PAC-12 honors and was unanimously selected as First-Team All-American in 2019. Sewell had a career of 678 Pass Block Snaps along with one QB sack allowed. Oregon had a record of 21-6 in Sewell’s two seasons with the program.
The NFL Draft will kick off this Thursday, April 29, at 8 PM Eastern on ESPN. The Draft will take place until Saturday, May 1, where the last picks will be selected. The Chargers’ first-round pick will be the 13th pick, followed by the 47th pick in the second round.
