The New York Yankees will take on the Texas Rangers in the second of a four-game set in Arlington. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Yankees-Rangers prediction and pick.

Texas took the opening game of this series by a score of 5-2 as they got to Yankee ace Gerrit Cole early and often. The Yankees fell to 11-10 on the road this season and will look to even the series with a win in game two.
Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Yankees-Rangers odds.
MLB Odds: Yankees-Rangers Odds
New York Yankees -1.5 (-101)
Texas Rangers +1.5 (-119)
Over 8.5 Runs (-110)
Under 8.5 Runs (-110)
Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread
New York will turn to Jameson Taillon in hopes of tying this four-game series at one apiece. Taillon has struggled so far with the Yankees with a 1-3 record and 5.40 ERA. The Yankee right-hander has been especially bad on the road as he’s 0-3 with a 9.49 ERA when pitching away from the Bronx this season. Taillon has only averaged four innings per start on the road this year and the Yanks will need him to get through five and turn it over to one of the best bullpens in baseball.
The Yankees have been slowly getting the bats going again as they scored 19 runs in three games against Baltimore over the weekend. They seemed primed to come into this series against a below-average rotation and soar. Last night, they made Jordan Lyles (6.63 ERA) look like Gerrit Cole. New York only had six hits and one earned run and will have to be much better to even the series. The Yankee lineup lives and dies with the production of Aaron Judge. The Yankee slugger has been solid this year and will look to bounce back from an 0-for-3 performance in last night’s defeat.
Why The Rangers Could Cover The Spread
Mike Foltynewicz will get the ball for the Texas Rangers as they look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. Foltynewicz had a career year with Atlanta back in 2018 with a 2.85 ERA in 183 innings. The Rangers right-hander has been on a free fall ever since and is looking to prove that he still belongs this season. He enters this start with a 1-3 record and a 4.60 ERA to date. With a subpar pen behind him, Foltynewicz will have to be stellar in his first career start against the Bronx Bombers.
Texas will certainly be hoping that guys like Willie Calhoun and Adolis Garcia can replicate their performances from last night. Both guys had two hits and a homer against Cole and were key factors in knocking the Yankee ace out after just five innings. Garcia is in the midst of a breakout year for Texas as he’s hitting .296 with 11 homers and 28 RBI. Digging into the Yankee bullpen in game one was just what the doctor ordered. They will now get to feast off of an opposing starter that has been horrid on the road.
Final Yankees-Rangers Prediction & Pick
I like this game to go well over the total. Jameson Taillon has gotten absolutely shelled on the road, Mike Foltynewicz isn’t much better, and the Yankee bullpen was used up last night. Texas seems to be riding some momentum at the plate into this game and we can expect a big bounce-back night at the plate for New York.
FINAL PICK: Over 8.5 Runs (-110)
