Chris Paul’s plan for $44.2 million player option, revealed

[ad_1]

Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul is 36 years old with a player option worth $44,211,146 for 2021-22. Even though Paul is still playing at a high level, it’s reasonable to think he would exercise that option in order to get that massive payday for next season.

However, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus reports Paul is expected to decline the player option in hopes of securing another lucrative multi-year contract, which would likely be the last of his career. Pincus suggests a three-year deal in the $100 million range.
This seems crazy considering it wasn’t that long ago when Chris Paul’s current contract was viewed as one of the worst in the NBA. But CP3 has been defying Father Time the last two seasons, showing he’s still one of the best point guards in the NBA. He led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a surprising playoff berth last season and nearly got them past the Houston Rockets, and now he and the Suns could beat the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers after earning the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
Paul’s brilliance on the basketball court should keep him rather effective over the next few seasons, as long as he stays healthy. He’s smart with an incredible handle, brilliant vision and a deadly mid-range jumper. That will play as he gets into his late 30s.
The health concerns will be there, though, and CP3 is currently dealing with a shoulder injury. Pincus says it’s not clear if this will alter Chris Paul’s decision on his player option. It’s something we’ll have to keep an eye on as one of the biggest storylines of the offseason.
