This comes just weeks after Barcelona brought in Man City hitman Sergio Aguero to reunite him with Argentina teammate, Lionel Messi. Depay, who is currently competing for the Netherlands at Euro 2020, possesses a ton of quality. The 27-year-old is a handful for opposing backlines thanks to his versatility in the final third.
Depay netted 20 times and tallied 12 assists last term for Lyon en route to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1. He also has a strong relationship with current Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman and it’s believed the former Dutch national team manager played a key part in bringing Depay to the Catalan club.
Prior to Lyon, Depay spent time at Old Trafford with Manchester United but struggled to find his form in the Premier League. It was in France where the attacker truly found his best. Depay’s link-up play could very well be his most valuable trait, showing the ability to pick out a pass and create dangerous opportunities on a consistent basis.
Now, he gets the chance to win trophies and be a key part of one of the most successful clubs in Europe. Barcelona and its supporters will be thrilled with this signing.
