Ethan's trauma over sexuality as he makes Pride speech in Emmerdale

Ethan makes a moving speech before welcoming The Vivienne onto the stage (Picture: ITV)As the Pride flags flutter outside the village hall, Emmerdale residents will put the final touches to the first ever Pride event set up by Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale).
Plenty of villagers will join in with the celebrations and someone who will make a powerful speech is Ethan (Emile John).
Ethan’s words will offer a message of acceptance for all on behalf of Emmerdale Pride and the church. After his speech, he’ll welcome Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK icon The Vivienne onto the stage.
Ahead of Ethan’s moving speech, Emile John has been speaking about what it’s been like to be a part of this history making event and has revealed the trauma his character has experienced over his sexuality:
‘It was Ethan that organised Pride with the help of his dad Charles. He gave quite a heartfelt speech just before introducing the special guest and from it, you can get a real sense of the trauma that he’s experienced as a result of his sexuality.
He’s empathetic to those that have endured abuse for the same reasons, but his message is one of hope, light and love, a thought provoking start to the festivities.’
‘Soaps have a huge responsibility in reflecting our culture, societal norms and attitudes back to us on a mass scale’, Emile added when speaking about the importance of soaps representing the world we live in today.

‘Of course not everything you see in soap should be taken literally but I’d argue that characters in soap closely parallel ordinary working people’s lives like no other.
If there are opportunities in which we can raise social justice issues in order to positively progress our communities I not only think it’s important for us to do so, but as creators I believe it’s our duty.’
