Phillip Schofield has hit out at Covid scaremongers in a heated row with Matthew Wright, questioning continued caution amid the vaccine roll-out.
The presenter slammed Matthew in an on-air clash on This Morning, blasting him by asking: ‘How dare you frighten me for another weekend?’
It comes after the pubs opened across England for the first time in months last week, with people across the country ordering millions of pints in total to celebrate.
Matthew, however, stressed the need to continue implementing regulations in a bid to avoid further spikes and reduce the risk of new variants – something Phillip disagreed with.
‘All of the vulnerable people have been vaccinated,’ Phillip said, before questioning the number of people whose mental health has been impacted by the pandemic.
‘How many are we losing to mental health?’ he questioned during the segment with Matthew, co-presenter Rochelle Humes and Camilla Tominey.

‘And for a weekend you get anxious about the fact there’s a new variant and what it’s going to do. Then you look at the news today and it says it’s not a great cause for concern. You think “how dare you frighten me for another weekend?”.
‘The unvaccinated population anywhere on the planet could be the source of a nasty variant,’ Matthew said later.
‘You’re the sort of person that I shout at over the weekend!’ Phillip hit back.

England’s R Rate dropped slightly after pub gardens and non-essential shops opened on Monday. The crucial number now stands at between 0.7 and 1, according to the latest Government figures.
More than 9.9million people have now received both doses of the vaccine across the UK, while nearly 33million have had their first dose.

Pubs across England were packed on Saturday as the first weekend out of lockdown saw people enjoy the weather by heading out for drinks with friends and family.
Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes will be able to open indoors on May 17 if the UK continues on schedule with its roadmap out of lockdown.
