The Orlando Magic provided a medical update on guard Devin Cannady after the former Princeton product suffered a nasty ankle injury on Sunday against the Indiana Pacers.

Cannady apparently suffered an open dislocation and severe lateral sprain in his right ankle. He underwent surgery Monday morning, per the team, and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Magic signed Cannady to a two-way contract earlier this month after a solid showing in the G League.
Cannady averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 13 games with the Lakeland Magic, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc on 5.4 attempts per game. He elevated his production in the playoffs, averaging 15.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 45 percent from deep over the course of three games.
The 24-year-old played sparingly in his first few appearances with the NBA club, but was finally starting to get steadier minutes prior to sustaining the injury.
Cannady logged over 15 minutes of run during last Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He played over 18 minutes on Tuesday for the Magic, though he shot just 1-for-7 from the field.
That poor shooting performance did not faze Cannady, however. He immediately bounced back in a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday, scoring 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field.
Of course, Cannady’s run came to a screeching halt on Sunday against the Pacers. He suffered the injury in less than a minute of run time and was carried off the floor in a stretcher. It was an unfortunate injury for a guy trying to gain a foothold in the NBA and make his mark with the Magic.
Perhaps Cannady can come back stronger once he is fully recovered.
