Kelly Oubre Jr.’s future with Golden State hits major wall

[ad_1]

It’s going to be an interesting offseason for the Golden State Warriors as they look to mount a challenge for next year’s crown. One of the biggest issues at hand is the future of Kelly Oubre Jr., who himself is set to enter free agency in the summer.

According to reports, both parties have shown a willingness to extend Oubre’s deal. However, with the 25-year-old reportedly looking to sign a long-term deal in the region of $20 million per year, Golden State might not be able/willing to meet his demands.
According to Michael Scotto of the HoopsHype podcast, the Warriors are very much open to the prospect of extending Oubre’s deal with the team. However, the 6-foot-7 small forward might have just priced himself out of the market with his $20 million-per-season self-valuation.
Oubre arrived in Golden State in the offseason via a trade deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, who in turn, acquired him from the Phoenix Suns as part of the Chris Paul deal. In 55 games played this season, Oubre put up averages of 15.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals, while also connecting on 1.6 triples per game.
Oubre established himself as a key piece for the Warriors this term, but with Klay Thompson returning next season, the former could prove to be dispensable for the Dubs — especially if he stands firm on his contract demands. At just 25, Oubre has a bright future ahead of him in the NBA and he should have no trouble finding a new team should the Warriors decide to let him walk away.
