Damian Lillard’s loyalty is unquestionable. After all, he has repeated time and time again that he wants to stay and win with the Portland Trail Blazers. However, after another playoff disappointment, it looks like he wants to remind the team that the clock is ticking and they don’t have much time.
The Blazers star recently sparked wild trade rumors after he posted on Instagram seemingly questioning how long he should stay loyal with the only team he has known in his nine-year career so far. Of course it came as a surprise since Dame has always rejected the idea of joining a Superteam just to win–though he has said before he is okay to building one in Portland.
Now, amid the trade speculations, a report by CNBC hints of Lillard’s plan regarding his future. While there is no indication that he wants to be traded and whether the Blazers are even open to trading him, Dame is said to be waiting on what the team will do before making a decision.
Lillard and his agent, Aaron Goodwin, could easily change that tone, though. A person close to Lillard told CNBC that he’s expected to wait to see what the Blazers do this off-season before deciding his future.
For what it’s worth, it has also been reported earlier that Damian Lillard wants the franchise to hire Jason Kidd as the Blazers head coach after parting ways with Terry Stotts. This indicates that he is still very much willing to stay in Portland, but then again, that is still up to the team if they can put him in the best position to succeed.
A lot of things can happen in the offseason, and given the volatility of the NBA landscape, it won’t even be surprising to see a player of Dame’s caliber to be traded or ask to be traded. For now, though, it looks like the ball is on the Blazers’ front office.
