Soon enough, two giants in the collectible industry will collide to give birth to something every basketball fan will love. In an announcement released last week, Panini America and Funko Pop are going to join forces to come up with a product featuring the former’s Prizm brand. Dubbed as Funko Pop Trading Card, the upcoming retail release highlights a vinyl figure modeled after a popular athlete’s Prizm sports card.

The first batch of this product will see six players each from the NBA and the NFL featured. The release added that it will be similar in appearance to Funko’s Pop Albums and Pop Comic Covers.
According to Matt Lattier, Funko’s Brand Licensing Manager, the upcoming release of Funko Pop Trading Card is the perfect union of two amazing collector bases. He added that what Panini has been doing in the card market and Funko’s passionate fan base provides collectors a unique way to display their fandom.
Panini America’s Vice President for Marketing Jason Howarth said that the company is excited to enter this partnership with Funko. He added that this is the ideal collaboration for both sports fans and consumers.
Word on the street is that the announcement for the initial list of players this product will feature is going to come out in July during the National Sports Card Convention. During that time, it’s expected that the first look of this collaboration will be released to the public.
Thanks to this partnership, card fans will have more ways to express their fandom and love for the game. More people will also find their way into the hobby through this collaboration with Funko. Better keep a close eye on this product in the coming months so you can plan your purchases ahead.
