Russia National Day:
MOSCOW, January 7 – RIA Novosti. The Communists of Russia party proposes to establish a National Pride Day on April 12 in connection with the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight, said the chairman of the party’s Central Committee, Maxim Sorokin.
According to him, in recent years, the Cosmonautics Day, which is celebrated on April 12, has become a “passing” one and is not celebrated as brightly as before. Sorokin noted that the holiday itself is essentially a departmental one, since not all Russians are cosmonauts, and it would be logical to call this date the Day of National Pride for the fact that Soviet people opened the way to space for the whole world.
“And we would like the new generation of Russians to realize how important this flight into space was for the whole world and for our country … If we are looking for a date that would unite absolutely all Russians, as it does on May 9, then Gagarin’s flight whether someone does not recognize in the country or questions its importance, “he explained.
